Life is Like a Bowl of...Currants?

Instead of boring you with step after step on the peony I want to share some of my other work with you and will update the peony when there is enough progress to show.

This painting was made from a reference photo on Wetcanvas that was taken by Valorie Cox .

Have a great weekend!

Everyone's Wearing Pink!

Finally every petal has at least a basic form and each one is wearing pink in one shade or another.

Next I will be adding more detail to the leaves and will begin on the background.

Friday

Well, Friday is here again and I am off because 0f having worked Monday.

Since I  had such a busy week I haven't taken the time to work on the peony. I thought I would pull out something I drew about 15 years ago.

I love horses and saw the original of this drawing in a book. I can't remember if it was a photo or a drawing but I fell in love with it and drew it.

Thank you for stopping by the blog.

Blogger Award

In my absence during the last weekend I was given this award by Diahn! Thank you!
I am supposed to name seven things I love and then pass the award on to seven of my favorite bloggers.

Seven Things I love
1. My Family.
2. Driving with my windows down and my music up!
3. Olive Garden's Chicken Scampi.
4. The freshness of colors in Spring.
5. Watching a small child discover his or her world.
6. The sound of the ocean.
7. The community of artist friends I have discovered since I began blogging.

Since Diahn has already received the award I will spread the love around to
some of my other favorites...

Whirlwind

I feel as is I have been in a whirlwind since Friday. I am usually tired by the time I have worked my three days! (poor me) The fatigue stems from my sleep patterns, not from a difficult job. I had just gotten home, walked the dog and settled on the couch for a short nap when the phone rang, it was my oldest son John. His wife had gone to the OB for her weekly check up preceding the birth of their second, his third, child and they decided to admit her. She was in active labor and he needed to be there as well as having two children at home that needed supervision... what do you do in a situation like that...MOM!!! Will you come to pick me up, take me to the hospital AND keep the boys until we bring the baby home? No problem! We had planned to do just that only not this weekend!

Chloe was born just over two weeks early and still weighed 8lbs 10ozs! She is a cutie (of course) and very healthy, for which we are thankful. They were able to come home Sunday. I had cooked our Sunday meal the day before and we ended up taking it to their house so that we could all spend time together and enjoy the baby. Monday I had switched days with my coworker and it was my oldest grandsons birthday, so after work, even though the sofa was calling my name I headed to Papa Murphy's and back to my sons house for a birthday party! Today...I may not get out of my pajamas!

Slow and Steady

I am almost there...well, as far as having pink on all the petals that is. In places I have added Alizarin Crimson and some Winsor Red each mixed with Opera to start the detail process.

Blessings

I am very blessed with a great husband, children and grandchildren. My first granddaughter is due in just three weeks!

Another of my blessings is my job. I work Wednesday through Friday and receive full time benefits. I almost feel guilty taking a vacation since I only work three days a week...almost.

On Fridays, which are sometimes unbelievably slow and my work is done, I have the option of doing "whatever it is that I do," you know like cross stitching, knitting or reading. I spend that time drawing or sometimes working on a small painting. This sketch was completed on a very slow Friday. It is of a Russian lady whose photo was on the front of a missions magazine. I had admired her for a long time. She has so much character.

The Careful Plodder

I am plodding along, trying to branch out to the more difficult petals across the top of the painting.

I've added some Alizarin Crimson to the darker Opera/Quin Rose mixture and it is giving me the deeper values I needed.

I've also begun some detail work on the heart shaped, yellow center.
